Pelton turbines are of the Impulse type and typically fall into the range of Higher head vs Lower flow when compared to other types of turbines like the Francis or Kaplan turbine. The pressure energy in the penstock is converted to kinetic energy at the jet and is then dispersed into the atmosphere after energy extraction occurs at the runner.
